Moon Zero Two (1969)
4/10
There's a plot? I must have been distracted by the groovy costumes and weird dance numbers.

Warning: Spoilers
You know that this is going to be a hoot the minute the credits roll with cheesy-looking sixties animation and a silly Go-Go's song. Astronaut James Olson is furious over the fact that his job is being threatened to change into piloting tourists wanting to visit the moon, now a far away Disney like amusement attraction. He goes up against the ruthless Warren Mitchell, a mogul who obviously saw dollar signs with the creation of space travel. There's a gem filled asteroid that a bunch of ruthless criminals want to make its way to the moon, basically wiping everything out. Olson (along with the alluring Catherine Schell) determines to stop them, and must convince Mitchell and the very theatrical Adrienne Corri of the danger. But who is really on who's side?

The over the moon plot features some very campy performances in the villain roles with Ori Levy and Bernard Bresslaw chewing the scenery as if they were moon rocks. I can see a bit of sci-fi classics prior and after this in many of the elements, obviously "Barbarella" and "Flash Gordon". The script is cliche ridden and often overly poetic, trying to fool the viewer into thinking that it's more intelligent than it is. This probably had the audience in stitches as it came right on the heels of "2001" which seemed so advanced while this was more of a high tech version of a 40's serial with stock villains, cynical heroes and alluring females, lead by the Go-Go's in the moon nightclub dancing sequences.
