I actually though in beginning it would be funny if Kayla was just pranking her parents.
Not thinking that was actually the plot.
But the issue is that the main reason for the lie wasn't pranking her parents but for Brittany to get away for awhile. How does telling the lie help with that.
To her father she is missing either way. Why drag Kayla and her parents into the mess when it doesn't even help the plan.
Brittany could have just disappeared from the bus stop or where they were originally going without such an elaborate ruse.
