This ain't even hemingway
13 November 2020
Hemingway didn't write this: his fourth wife, who burned most of his papers at the dump in key west, found this manuscript in a raw and very very rough form, found someone to write it "The way Ernest would have done it", and then it became this debacle. Claire Bloom. the Coldest witches Teat of them all has the most despicable part in it as a despicable ex-wife bringing him the news his oldest son is killed in combat. The entire scene is unreal. the movie is unreal and barely watchable. If you are somehow stupid enough to believe its based on a hemingway novel, (much like To Have and Have Not is purported to be based on the Hemingway novel of the same name, which bears no resemblance whatsoever to the book),then its a passable 'drunks on a boat in the bahamas' outing one can see most any weekend in the shallows of those rocks in the gulf stream (and my condolences to the people who must interact with you on a daily basis). One particular stupid stupid scene: Scott, in the character of Thomas Hudson, a somewhat known sculptor, is actually seen welding what appears to be a big circle...one of his 'art' pieces no doubt. Lord have mercy, how stupid do they think we are?
