4/10
2 characters in search of a backbone (or a decent storyline)
17 November 2020
Character 1: - Spoiled, self indulgent sleazy pianist who claims to be just a normal person, but is every bit the priggish character that he is written to be. Character 2: - Milquetoast person who says very smart-ass remarks to character #1 but sometimes the expression on her face says "did I really say that?.

The good things about this film: 1. The concert scenes - the sounds and the music are very well put together. Dreyfuss and Irving actually look like they are playing the music .

The Bad things about this film. 1. The gawd-awful screenplay that loads triteness on top of triteness even by 1980 standards. 2. Richard Dreyfuss' hair and makeup. So horrible that I spent as much time looking at that as I did at the film. If you need a lesson in how NOT to apply make-up in the movies -- this is the film to watch.

At two hours plus, this could have used a better editing job even though the editing was nominated for a Oscar - They may have won if they would have made a few more cuts --- like maybe 90 more minutes.
