CGI bugs and boobs

The original Starship Troopers (1997) film is one of the funniest and goriest movies in the science fiction action genre. The popularity of the first movie spawned two sequels that sadly weren't anywhere near as good as the original film.

Starship Troopers Invasion story follows a group of Black Ops mobile infantry soldiers who are tasked with infiltrating a military ship gone dark after a Black Ops mission gone wrong. The starship Alesia commanded by captain Carmen Ibanez tracks down the military ship gone dark. The Black Ops team along with Captain Ibanez board the ship to find out why the ship went dark. They quickly discover the dead bodies of the ships crew aswell as the shot up bodies of some of the terran bugs who appeared to have taken over the ship and killed the crew. The team reboot the ships dead engines and upon doing so unleash an army of terran bugs along with a bug queen who has taken over the engine room and now controls the entire ship. The teams numbers begin to dwindle as they fight off a ship full of bugs while trying to unravel a plot of secret genetic experimentation on the bug queen to try and take control of the bug army.

The story includes the main characters from the original movie. Mobile infantry soldier turned general Johnny Rico, pilot turned captain Carmen Ibanez and minister Carl Jenkins who is capable of using psychic powers and mind manipulation. Though these are technically the same characters as in the original movie sadly they have completely different personalitys and looks than in the original essentially making these "returning" characters redundant when they share little to no resemblance to their original characters.

The new characters have no real personality and are all just copies of better characters from the original movies only with new names. The voice acting is very mono tone and quiet giving these characters very little energy or personality.

There are some decent action scenes in the movie that involve plenty of blood, gore and bodily dismemberment which does make up for the lack of likable characters especially when you get to see most of them die. There's also a fair amount of CGI nudity in the first twenty minutes of the movie which shows at least three of the movies female characters naked from the front and back not full frontal but close enough that's for sure.

Starship Troopers Invasion was directed by Shinji Aramaki who had previously directed several other CGI and animated films from Appleseed (2004), Appleseed Ex Machina (2007) and even the very successful Halo Legends (2010). I always liked Shinji Aramakis work on animated movies and anime shows more than his work making CGI animated movies.

I recommend watching Starship Troopers Invasion at least once while it's nowhere near as good as the original movie it still manages to entertain and provide plenty of blood, gore and nudity that Starship Troopers is well known for.
