A riveting message
24 January 2021
When white westerners watch the nth television report of a Syrian or Afghani family struggling to find freedom, they switch channels. The idea of using an "average" white couple with two children is an ingenious way of getting the message across: in this case, the viewer just might emote for the barely twenty minutes of this short docu-drama, shot from the heart. As someone sharing "home" with five refugees from as many different nations, I can confirm that this ingenious short encapsulates the hidden backstory of their flight from everything familiar to a new and conflicting world of privilege. A worthy idea admirably executed.
