A demon in my view .
24 March 2021
It was only natural that Perkins tried his hand at Stevenson 's "dr Jekill and Mr Hyde";"psycho" remains the best movie about split personality ,often imitated, never surpassed .But he chose the wrong director , who worked in porn cinema and it shows : plenty of male (I wonder whether the pointless scene in the baths is not exploiting Perkins' private life)and female nudity .Although the scenes in Madame Flore 's brothel de luxe are sometimes effective (note that it's a male prostitute who leads Mr Hyde to this place of debauchery and bisexuality is underlined).

Against all odds ,Perkins was so good an actor he could survive trashy movies such as this one ; his mister Hyde recalls the Joker and his character is the ghost of Norman Bates who followed him through his whole career. But he remained professional to his fingertips till his last work, the poorly received " a demon in my view" ,based on a Ruth Rendell 's thriller .

A fallen aristocrat , his wrinkled face still retains something boyish ,this childlike charm which graced the screen in such memorable works as "friendly persuasion" "psycho" "the trial" or even Claude Chabrol's "la décade prodigieuse" (ten days wonder)

Closer to "Jack the ripper" than to Stevenson , a horror movie where the police are listless and do not seem to care for the dead bodies piled in mounds ;hence the ending...

Fans of Perkins should see this anyway.
