Miriam Hopkins playing with men, icon.

An original story from the literary Thackeray brought to the screen by Rouben Mamoulian, showing us the story of Becky Sharp (Miriam Hopkins), a low-class young woman who climbs the social pyramid to achieve her wishes.

It is undoubtedly a story and above all a female character empowered for the time, beyond falling into patterns of a typical liar and avaricious woman, Miriam Hopkins gives it a special touch with her vain and fresh interpretation, she reveals a woman who is always in control of the situation and everything looks like a game, this is also her downfall. A performance that earned her first and only Oscar nomination.

The scenes that set the scene with the beautiful costumes and hairstyles of the principal give another view of the film, the colors play very well and more to be one of the first with technicolor of the time.

My problem with the film is that it does not go beyond the greed of the main character, without changes, evolutions or deepening. There comes a point that the dialogues between her men that are predictable and not surprising, even her moment of decline is very overlooked, this is undoubtedly the fault of a fairly basic script that did not take advantage of the great protagonist and the climate that it generated.
