7/10
A superior picture
9 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A good story, well told and well made, directed with oodles of suspense by the prolific J. Lee Thompson. It's one in a sub-genre of '50s films in which children find themselves in peril, hardly a surprise when their playgrounds were bombed-out buildings and all manner of explosives and weaponry seemed littered around. This one features William Sylvester as a truly respulsive bad guy who uses a child's innocence to achieve his own murderous ends. A good supporting cast and fresh, inventive story make it a superior picture.
