Ideals

Warning: Spoilers
I want to start off by saying that i enjoyed this film for the most part. Where this movie falls short is the development of some of the characters throughout the film. Accio is well developed in my opinion but his brother Manrico definitely falls short of character development. In the beginning we see typical sibling rivalry.which Italian movies will often use to show.social conflict class struggle, ideological warfare, and political contention. Accio is shown going to seminary school then returning home because he does not like it. Later in his life he joins the Facist movement which then he also leaves that because he does not like their ideals in the end. We the view get plenty of time to see, hear, and feel what Accio is going through. As for Manrico we see him follow his father into a factory job and then later become a Communist. We get that but as the film progresses we lose Manrico and apparently Manrico losses himself too. It is not clear what political and intellectual processes lead Manrico on the journey from Communist to terrorism. Which can lead to a very confusing ending for Manrico.
