The show always was self aware and satirical. But this time is is about real life dynamics, and those of its own scripts. This episode was Angel's first try at a true Hollywood criticism. This era entertainment, was completely schizophrenic, for making fun of patterns and ideas it used to make money from. And « Eternity » does it implicitly, in a way you still get the message loud and clear. This business is bad and corrupt, but you need it to live, just like Angel needs blood to keep moving. The story has the same structure as most episodes this season, but the mini twist near the end, give slasher fans something to chew on. There's a clear score setting too, with the way writers portray actresses and the entertainment business too, when one is portrayed as too talentless to say it, and the other, too thin and unpopular to land a new role again. And how hurtful truths fly out of people's mouth, once the beast is out. It was a dark but but needed approach, for a show taking place in a city like LA, in which the hero seems to have landed in spite of himself, I thought. And I just love the way Angel pays for his slip up eventually, that part was funny. I won't say it's one of the best episodes of the season, but it is still worth checking once in a while.
