Surprisingly enjoyable

I really didn't expect to like this but, to my surprise, I did! I have to start off by saying that nothing about this is even remotely believable. It's best not to think too critically at all actually, because the plot is really quite preposterous. A teenage boy, recently released from some sort of institution for Seriously Disturbed Adolescents with Violent Tendencies, spends the first part of the movie in an almost catatonic state but suddenly switches into full on commando mode when his family is attacked by a bunch of nasty hit men. Actually, he's more than just a commando. He also channels McGyver with his mastery of fashioning elaborate booby traps out of a few sticks and some bubble gum or string or stuff like that. Other reviewers say that this reminded them of a rather bloody version of Home Alone and that occurred to me too.

There is a lot of blood in this, but it is not full on gory. Certainly don't watch it with the kids, but if you can suspend credulity for a little while you will find this movie is 90 minutes or so of mindless and satisfying enjoyment.
