Fiona Shaw makes it a worthwhile watch
1 July 2021
There's almost 100 IMDb reviews already as I write this, so what little I could add will ultimately go unnoticed. So, if you decide to watch this, do so for Fiona Shaw's performance. She undoubtedly and ultimately bumps up the rating level from an average 5 out of 10 to a solid 7 out of 10.

Wonderful art direction. As an American, I am unfamiliar with the location shots, but boy, was I mesmerized by the beauty of the architecture. There was an obvious desire by the production design to replicate authenticity, and the candlelight scenes confirm that. The costuming defies expectations.

There's little to no plot: a woman's life entwines with the suitor whose marriage proposal she rejected some years ago. That's it. There's little to no action otherwise.

The acting is formidable. The suspension of disbelief questionable. The direction lacking and dragging. But hang onto every scene with Ms. Shaw. What a powerhouse of an actor!
