Review of Lawyer Man

Lawyer Man (1932)

POWELL IS JUST FUN TO WATCH
28 July 2021
No matter what character he was assigned to play, William Powell was truly the actor's actor. LAWYER MAN came a few years before the iconic THIN MAN series he was to star in, but the mechanics of a fine actor were already in place. Here Powell plays an up and coming attorney with his eyes on the prize, and the age-old message attached, 'be careful what you wish for..." Joan Blondell, likewise a versatile actress, and well used by Warner Brothers throughout the 1930s, plays Powell's 'devout' secretary and gal pal. Their teaming was exceptional as they played off each other quite well, and it makes you pause for a moment... had it not been for Myrna Loy, how Blondell would have done in the THIN MAN films. Bottom line, one terrific actress. All the other Warners alumni are here, if not all the familiar faces, including Allan Jenkins. A must see for all of us movie buffs who have to catch a real oldie every now and then. Habit forming, too!
