Once Fallen (2010)
6/10
Slightly Above Average Movie
5 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Once Fallen is a slightly above average film. It is NOT The Godfather or Shawshank Redemption, but it is NOT Paradise Hills or Harley Quinn either. On the negative side, it is extremely improbable. How? After the main character Chance ( Brian Presley) gets out of prison he finds his ex girlfriend had a son with him and decides to abandon him and and the kid. Why would she do that to her son after five years? Makes no sense. By far the best one in the movie is Pearl (Taraji P. Henson). She is a black woman who becomes the girlfriend of Chance ( a real no no when his father. Liam ( Ed Harris) is the head of the Aryan Brotherhood in prison). Pearl is the film's moral compass. She is the one who explains to Chance that there are alternatives to drug dealing ( which he did before going to prison). Spoilers ahead; There is a happy ending for Chance and Pearl ( which involves going away from his home) but not for anyone else. But the fact the movie did not have a downbeat ending was a plus. Too many films are ruined by those kind of endings that offer nothing positive. I would rather see hope ( provided there is character growth) then a depressing ending. I give the film 6 out of 10 stars. Slightly better then average: Mostly for the ending and Henson.
