6/10
Fair Movie
14 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I just saw Only The Brave on YouTube ( thank you YouTube), which is film 72 of the 118 Gary Cooper made that I have seen ( I do not include cameo's, lost films or where he was an extra ( regardless if I saw them ( Alias Jessie James or Paramount On Parade for example) or not), so I know most of his work. However, to be honest it is a only a fair movie. It takes place during the Civil War with Union Captain spy. Captain. James Braydon ( Cooper) falling for Southwrn lady. Barbara Calhoun ( Mary Brian). Cooper' problem is he wants to get captured ( and killed) for having false documents on him. Why? Does he want to die? He found out that a woman he liked cheated on him. Her problem was she liked I tease men ( especially. Captain Robert Darrington ( Phillips Holmes)). The biggest problem was a lack of action ( very different then the later ( and better) Cooper Civil War Cooper Spy movie Operator 13), followed by Holmes Darrington. He is a very pathetic character. The pluses in the movie: Another Cooper movie that had eluded me, I can check off because I finally saw it ( still looking for The Spoilers ( 1930). 2: The fact the film is extremely rare ( the fact only 4 posters ( myself included) commented on it is proof of that) so that means just being able to see it is a good thing. 3: The character growth in Barbara. She went from a tease to a responsible lady who gets Braydon to fall in love with her ( and wanting to live) and spoilers ahead: Marries her in the final scene of the movie. I give it 6/10 stars. Not remotely the best of Cooper but still worth watching ( if only once)
