This 1976 television film is one of the best dramas that the BBC made in the 1970's.
It hasn't dated, and it still stands up to the test of time. The acting and the direction is excellent. The interplay between the two stars is television acting at its best.
When the signalman sees the traveler for the first time, his memory is triggered by the traveler saying, "HALLOA! BELOW!" The fear and fright on the signalman's face shows it all. So we know that something evil and awful is about happen.
This film drama is spooky, thought provoking with a good twist at the end of it.
I have just brought the rest of these BBC ghost stories on iTunes, so it is a pleasure to have the whole BBC Christmas ghost story dramas in my film collection.
It is worth watching in the dark winter months.
