Hard Contract (1969)
4/10
You've got the stars. You got the great location footage. You've got plenty of action. Now where's the story?

Warning: Spoilers
Okay so the hero James Coburn isn't so likeable. He's a hit man who hooks up with plenty of women but never spends the night. That's fine, but the way he verbalizes it to these women is cooler than his mane of near white hair. You've got Karen Black in one of her early appearances as a prostitute in one of the opening scenes, and the way that he treats her with disdain for her idea of combining business with intimacy is heartless.

So at least that sets up his character, and when a beautiful sophisticate, Lee Remick, gives him the eye, he's just as mechanical in bed with her as he is with a prostitute. She looks on him stunned when he basically just takes off his shorts, and stares at her and ask if he knows where he can get a private jet. Remick is way too good for him, asking him bluntly if he'd like her to close the drapes as she stands there in her panties and bra.

As far as the storyline is concerned, he's basically sent to Spain to fulfill a hit on former hitman Sterling Hayden. He's basically run out on Remick and she goes out of her way to find him. So you've got some fabulous Spanish locations and they are gorgeous to look at. You've also got the wonderful Lilli Palmer as an eccentric socialite, and she steals every moment that she is on screen, basically bringing the film to life when you're tired of looking at the structures of old Spain. Burgess Meredith is completely wasted as Coburn's boss though, a true waste of talent. A horrible film? No. But would I watch this again, especially on the big screen for the scenery? Definitely not.
