Midnight Run (1988)

low key role for deniro
19 December 2021
Deniro is walsh, retired cop turned bounty hunter in california. He has five days to find a guy who ripped off the mob boss (farina). Charles grodin, who did mostly dry comedy, is mardukas, living somewhere in new york. But everyone seems to want to find mardukas even more than his bail bondsman. Can walsh track him down before the fbi or the mob move in to take mardukas into their own hands? Deniro had already won both his oscars, and pretty much had his choice of roles at this point. Mardukas seems to be having fun being taken in.... at one point, he points out how bad walsh's diet is, and that he shouldn't smoke, if he wants to live a long life. And mardukas has ripped off the mob and is trying to avoid getting snuffed out! He seems to enjoy small talk with walsh, sometimes chuckling to himself. Directed by martin brest. Directed beverly hills cop. Had some hits and misses in his list. Great script. Story by george gallo.... he has a ton of things currently in production. This one is pretty solid, but it looks like there were sequels, and that doesn't usually go well.
