I've heard about An Officer and a Gentleman for a long time, so I guess I was expecting a little more. This is a run-of-the-mill misfit-learns-to-be-a-good-soldier-at-boot-camp movie with a bland romance. I swear Richard Gere was on tranquilizers and he shared them with the rest of the cast, because everyone seemed to be sleepwalking through their roles. I have no idea why this dull film did so well.
