Jesus takes Rick and others to his community.

This is a strong episode that sets up the overarching narrative quite well to move in a different direction.

The Walking Dead is superb at showing societies developing from their most basic elements. Now a community has been properly established in Alexandria, like a mini nation state, it's time for cross border relations with other communities. Naturally, this looks like it will unfold in a bloodthirsty and confrontational way, with Rick at the heart of all the violence.

There is one fight Rick gets involved in here that is darkly funny. In fact his reaction to onlookers is a priceless moment, reminiscent of a classic scene in the show Deadwood. On that subject, this episode has somewhat of a Deadwood tribute when the focus moves to a new location. It's a bit western frontier in its layout, plus the music is very similar.

The story and characters have definitely been reinvigorated since the time jump and I am expecting that more horror, tragedy and those muddy waters between good and bad to likely follow.

Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus and Michael Cudlitz are on top form, plus the rest of the cast are strong as ever.
