A Missed Opportunity

This film essentially begins with a young woman by the name of "Charlotte Hawthorn" (Sharon Hinnendael) transferring from an all-girls Catholic school to a small university which is paid for by her being granted a fencing scholarship. Upon arrival she is informed by the college dean "Dr. John Duncan" (Robert Moloney) that she will be expected to maintain a high grade average while also fulfilling the demands of her athletic scholarship at the same time. As if that wasn't enough, she also gets a part-timejob at the local coffee shop to make ends meet as well. In short, she doesn't have much free time on her hands. What she doesn't expect, however, is the sudden onset of hallucinations that suddenly appear without warning and are quite horrific in nature. Neither does she realize that an evil presence has followed her to this university and that it wants to have her at all costs. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that this film had all of the ingredients necessary for a good horror film but the director (Carl Bessai) never seemed to be able to generate sufficient action or suspense to meet that standard. Likewise, the ending could have used significant improvement as well. That said, while this may not have been a bad horror film necessarily, I honestly wasn't impressed with it and I have rated it accordingly. Slightly below average.
