Don't Kill Me (2021)
3/10
Odd in spots and had potential

Warning: Spoilers
Some reviews are on both extremes but they are unfair. The movie isn't completely terrible but it certainly doesn't rate highly either.

ACTING. The acting is average at best. No worse than the Twilight saga. Pagani, the main female character, plays the university student well and is likeable. She doesn't come across that well as the overdead. Fasano plays the Edward vampire wanna-be okay but completely one tone. The problem is that in a different script, his character and the actor would be very good with his thin face appearance but the few times that character has to show emotion in this movie, he doesn't.

SETTING. I always like seeing movies from other countries as the scenery changes and gives freshness to the location. This one does that although not as much as others.

PLOT. I liked the core of the plot but there were small subplots that were not explained or follow-up. Some were inserted for no apparent reason. I think the plot seems poor as the editing is poor. The editing affects the pace so the bad editing throws everything off. Some examples:

*The plot says some people come back due to violent crime. Yet Pagani comes back from willing taking a drug that unknowingly was poisonous. She is an example of someone who wouldn't come back.

*How did the sect know the poison would bring Fasano back?

*They were developing something with the mother that didn't go anywhere.

*Out of the blue, there is the subplot father having an affair with someone who looked much younger than him.

*In one scene she pushes the limping man across the hall and then bends towards him only for the next scene to be her holding the surgeon's head and the lock.

*Why wouldn't the surgeon have feasted on one of the three bodies in the room upstairs? Instead she is slowly helped being carried all the ways downstairs and attempt to escape. She feeds on a guy in the basement and seems in good health immediately afterwards.

*The whole scene with the best friend came out of nowhere. We hadn't seen anything that showed he had feeling for her. In fact since the main male character started hanging out with him then why would he even notice her?

*That best friend took the knowledge of the living dead very well without any decent backstory.

So in the end I found parts of it interesting but not enough to really recommend it. It could be a late night view on a streaming service and you won't feel you've lost too much of your time.
