Another Enjoyable Woody Allen Production
31 March 2022
Mira Sorvino is excellent in this Woody Allen film, playing Linda, the biological mother of his adopted son. Linda is the proverbial hooker with a heart of gold.

Allen plays his usual character, this time as a sportswriter. As director, Allen likes to play with cinematic conventions; here he uses a Greek chorus, but interacts with its members as if they are friends you can drop in on or have a sandwich with. Allen derives much of his humor by juxtaposing the sublime with the ridiculous, the beautiful with the mundane, the classical with the commonplace.

The story grows more interesting and enjoyable as the film progresses. By its end, a certain equilibrium is achieved, if not a perfect romantic denouement.
