Did I see aliens, or was it one big practical joke?

Warning: Spoilers
A very low budget but entertaining science fiction film, this deals with a bunch of scientists discovering attempted communication by aliens which results in them getting a box of goodies (that look like exotic French pastries) and somehow thinking they've ended up on a spaceship which has taken them to another planet. The encounter leads to some danger with battles drawn when the female scientist ends up on a gurney nearly stabbed before the hero, Simon Oates, comes to her rescue.

The only issue I had with this film was the nosy Cockney coffee lady whose personality really grated on my nerves and the perplexing ending that has them somehow ending up on a strip of land that has been forbidden to tourist, obviously on Earth. Still, with all of its flaws, it's amusing, and the presence of what I think were aliens was very clever with how they were made up to look. But when the film was over, I had more questions than answers, and I wasn't about to watch the film again to get the results of those questions. I've seen much worse cheap science fiction, especially those made in the 60's when anybody with a camera and access to an editing bay could make a cheap film like this.
