Review of Elden Ring

Elden Ring (2022 Video Game)
10/10
A game from the 90s

I didn't know anything about this game, i bought it because i saw a scene of a guy fighting a dragon while riding a goat.

I never played From Software games before. I'm 36 and the first true open world game i played and loved was Morrowind.

My favorite game is Half-Life.

My favorite ARPG was Diablo II.

After you taste Elden Ring all other ARPGs will have a different appeal.

The experiences this game offers are simply incredible; the map is large and full of jaw dropping vistas and enemies, in a dark gritty gothic style that mixes all the most popular fantasy genres: from The Lord of Rings to Conan the Barbarian, Harry Potter, Berserk, the cosmic horrors of the Chtulhu Mythos (Hastur mainly), Princess Monoke and others.

This game requires you to take a breath from time to time, it pushes players to the limit with many of its challenges.

The controls and the freedom of engagement make the learning curve pretty steep, it feels lime learning how to drive a bike: impossible first try, but exhilarating after you get the gist of it. Its mostly a matter of reading the movements of the enemy and react accordingly, like a musician being directed in an orchestra.

Exploration in this game redefines the standard for open world games, there are surprises and secrets hidden behind every corner.

Replayability is ensured by the vastness of the map and variety of playstyles, not by gambling addiction.

Kudos to the developers.
