Micki Dickoff and Sonia "Sunny" Jacobs were best friends in childhood. "In the Blink of an Eye" portrays the unbreakable bond between friends.

Micki was an aspiring filmmaker in Los Angeles when she first learned that her friend from childhood was serving a life sentence in prison. Micki comes to her friend's assistance and works closely with a dedicated attorney to get the conviction overturned.

In her life, Sunny clearly used poor judgment in her relationship with an ex-con. One thing led to another, and two cops were dead with Sunny and the kids cowering in the car. On the other hand, she was innocent of murder, and her court case was clearly a gross miscarriage of justice.

A star-studded cast makes the film engrossing with an excellent range of characters, especially the stalwart Sunny, whose gritty outlook has allowed her to cope during her sixteen years in prison. Mimi Rogers is a standout in the role of Sunny.

While the flashback scenes and the endless lunches with Sunny and Micki in the prison tended to slow the pace down, "In the Blink of an Eye" was nonetheless a solid character study and a powerful expression of the kind of friendship that few experience in life.
