Review of That's Life

That's Life (2000–2002)
6/10
Another good and uplifting « chick flick » series.

There seemed to be a trend with stories about young women trying to overcome past mistakes and emotional bagages, twenty or so years ago. If you love series like Ally McBeal, Providence, Jack & Jill and Felicity, you'll love That's Life. It's the kind of show you can binge watch without hesitation. It has good actors, storylines and music (a lot of songs were from those shows mentioned earlier). The heroine was sort of annoying at first, but she grew on me. She was like an American Italian Bridget Jones. I remember watching a couple of episodes on TV, and loved it. But the scheduling was too weird, so I had to stop. Thankfully, almost all episodes are on YouTube. So I was able to watch it all. It's not without its flaws. Like that episode, series from that time all seemed to have. That was so political in a simplistic and preachy way, it did the show wrong. And spoiled the fun a little. And the departures. Mainly from Kristin Bauer and Jamie Luner, whom I was excited to see there. And the fact that Danielle Harris became a regular in season 2. Nothing against the actress, but her character Plum, really got on my nerves. It's a good thing it brought Swoozie Kurtz in though, as she was playing her mother... The main cast is great and really give their all to their characters. I'm disappointed it was ill-treated like that. What didn't people like about the show? It was exactly like any other 2000s drama, while having its own universe and charm. And wasn't too stereotypical. I thought season 1 was very different from season 2. But enjoyed both equally, even when it got too over the top and randomly dramatic. Shame we can't find the series finale anywhere...
