When it comes to portraying feudal Japan and samurai culture, there is no other director who does it so masterfully. The combats, costumes, makeup, haircuts, locations, photography, in short, everything is very good. The only thing that the film lacks (and it's not the director's fault) is the lack of color, if the film is already good black and white imagine color. Mifune, always very expressive in his roles, again masterfully plays a samurai.
