William Gibson Gets His Due
30 October 2022
Finally, fans of cyberpunk get an adaptation by ground-breaking author William Gibson. Granted, it's not "Neuromancer" and the TV series does not follow exactly the plot of the book of the same name. Still, the adaptation is quite good - in large part to very good acting especially by Chloe Grace Moretz - and gets going very quickly from the beginning.

What's good: I'm only three episodes in, but already I am invested in what's happening. Pacing, plot, dialogue, acting, set design, etc. - they're all good. We the audience get bits and pieces of the situation at the same time as Flynne, Moretz's character. That's very good writing from Scott Smith, who hasn't done a lot of noteworthy works (aside from "A Simple Plan"), but who has clearly demonstrated talent and skill here.

Overall, I'm glad to see Moretz in a production worthy of her acting ability, and an adaptation of Gibson's work that is equally worthy of his genre-defining stories.
