If you're already a fan of Weird Al, you'll probably appreciate this 5 minute sketch stretched into full absurd comedy. If Al's Accordian polka and silly parodies leave you cold, this is not the movie for you.
Like Weird Al's parodies enhances rather than degrades the material it lampoons. His songs have always been funnier because they have a legitimate appreciation for the music which is represented.
In that vein, the movie actually respects the stock standard musician biopic it takes down, acknowledging the build up, top of the world, rock bottom to redemption arc is solid story telling.
The actors play it straight, despite how ridiculous some of the circumstances become, which is also fitting for Weird Al and makes the humor better.
It seems like it had to be stretched with some extra zany sequences, but it doesn't really out stay its welcome.
