Warning: Spoilers
You think maybe Ezra Cobb got his inspiration from Hitchcock's "Psycho"? Even though the film is based on a true story it's still hard to fathom. However, given the subject matter, it doesn't really come across as sensationalistic, more like the inner workings of a disturbed mind seeking solace in the presence of a deceased mother. You have to wonder how a person's mind can snap to such a degree while maintaining a semblance of composure with neighbors and friends. There's sufficient warning at the outset that the picture isn't for the faint hearted or squeamish, so bear that in mind before watching. Still, some of the scenes come across as surreally humorous, particularly the séance scene with Maureen Selby (Marian Waldman), who had an ulterior motive in mind when Ezra came calling. If it weren't based on a true story, this is something you might expect to see as a 'Tales From the Crypt'. All I can say is - proceed with caution.
