The concept of this was a good choice for Hallmark, but they just didn't know how to pull it off!! First thing is the same ole, tired writing of girl spilts with current boyfriend, falls for the new guy!! Near the end they have their spat & "split" only to kiss & make up at the end!! That's not the way to do a period picture about someone becoming a Rockette!! Should have been focused on her & the group!!
Then you have inaccuracies in this film & that really hurts it!! You will see some hair & clothing styles, (coats & hats) that are from the 1940's!! The guy the lead actress meets in NYC is a navy man on leave whose hair is too long for active navy!! The lead is from a rich Philadelphia socialite family but has a friend who lives in an apartment in somewhere like Brooklyn? That's completely unbelievable!! Rich did not mingle like that in that time period!! Nor would he NYC friend be Asian!!
1958, NYC was segregated!! Her Asian friend would not have been in an apartment like she was in!! She would have been in Chinatown!! Also, the Rockettes did not have their first woman of color until the 1980's!! So the Alice character would not have existed then, let along get offered a new position within the Rockettes in 1958!! Remembering history is important to keep it from repeating, but revisionist history is completely unacceptable!! People who have no idea to actual history will think revisionist history is the way it was!! Hallmark has to get a new, & deserving CEO if they want to be tops!!
