Review of Strike

Strike (1925)
7/10
A Fine Silent Social Drama

Very straight forward film about a strike, once upon a time in 19th Russia.

I personally liked how stylized it was. It felt fresh even with its clear 'stylings' AND really felt dynamic for its age. It that aspect the film specifically does not show much of its age. Russian Montage filmmakers can be a bit too much but this film blends the best part of that group to the tee. And shockingly, the direction film's narrative went is not really what I expected. It just went there fully. It did not even try to go make a tragedy of the things to come that some other films of the era tends (or next 50 years or sowould go), it just go for a somber tone akin to New Hollywood's.

Overall, a very interesting and approachable film. Recommended.
