A day at the races with old enemies.
7 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Moriarty is back and scheming once again against Sherlock Holmes, attempting to steal a racehorse on behalf of a cohort, simply to spite his old enemy and apparently to make some money so he can plan more nefarious schemes against his anime. I wasn't truly engaged in watching this one which I found very slow in many spots, and if Moriarty is going to go toe to toe with Holmes, it needed to be in a plot involving far more sinister activities than what happens here even though murder does occur.

I'll give them credit for trying something interesting or at least unique, and tying in characters that were in the original "Hounds of the Baskervilles" story. Arthur Wontner and Ian Fleming are once again reunited as Holmes and Watson, and Lyn Harding is back as Moriarty although he tones down the emoting, thus being much more subtle than he was in "The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes" two years before. While there of course are many tense moments, this is probably the weakest of the series (including the later Rathbone/Bruce teamings. Some good dialogue however does brighten it up, but if they were going to spend a day at the races, there needed to be something more sinister going on, especially with Moriarty the mastermind behind the scenes.
