Tales of Wells Fargo (1957–1962)
8/10
Wonderful Historical Small Screen Fiction

After catching up on "Outlander" and watching "Men in "Kilts" on Starz, (both 10/10 shows ;), I have little to watch so I turned to the Western shows of the late 50s early 60s. The "Rifleman" (9/10) was my absolute favorite-" Tales of Wells Fargo", a close second. If you can get past the kind of annoying narration that Dale Robertson gives, you may rated higher because the historical fiction Factor really makes this show a classic. Many episodes show real people, outlaws and other historical characters, and some of the stories are practically factual. The show definitely shows the history of the Wells Fargo company in many ways- what the drivers and even the passengers had to go through while carrying and being carried through the new territories of this country. For the historical value alone it is fascinating but the acting and the scenery and sets add real value to the series. I suggest it as a good family series if one can explain the morality, the violence, and misogyny to youngsters under 13. As usual in this time periods black and white series, there's no real blood shown but as with all westerns there certainly is violence. The guest stars were all top notch, if not at that time, then later on in their careers. Excellent and timeless.
