I didn't know there was a tv show preceding the movie, and now that I know there's a show, I definitely want to watch that. I've seen the movie, and I really enjoyed it, despite my lack of previous tv show knowledge.
It's definitely not my favorite vampire movie (The Lost Boys has that honor), but it's one of the more creative vampire movies I've seen and does make it on my list of re-watchables. The storyline did make a lot of sense, over all, though I disagree with some of the vampiric lore.
One thing I thought made the movie rewatchable was the change in the main character. He turns from being a character I hope will die to someone I'm rooting for. The amount of change that was experienced was amazing, I think. It made the whole movie, with cheesy lines and all, worth watching.
