it is lovely to watch
8 June 2023
We understand that a group of artists meet a wonderful and strange woman called Anabella and all their experience, passion, dreams and get inspired by her. The film adaptation of the novelette of the same title written by Doninik Tatarka depicts the life of a young generation of artists formed in Slovakia during the war. As Anabella and her group of artists awaken the erotic desires but also feelings of love and secret fantasies as well as artistic inspiration. It seems that the boundaries between reality and fantasy suddenly cease to exist. We have to say that some of the dialogue is rather pretentious but the surrealist photography is fantastic and it is lovely to watch as if at times we forget what are they saying. The mysterious Anabella is played by Jolanta Umecka who only made five films with this her last one and the very first in 1962 was Knife in the Water directed by Roman Polanski.
