The infamous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles anime
8 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This anime miniseries inspired in the Fred Wolf cartoon of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from the 80s used to be pretty infamous back in the day, being often mentioned as an example of how Japanese adaptations of western properties can be just as bad as western adaptations of anime.

Nowadays, the fandom has warmed up a bit to it, but most people still see it as a mere curiosity. Truth to be told, most of its flaws were already present in the original show: Nonsensical plots, randomly introducing a bunch of new elements in order to promote some new toys just to drop them at the next episode...

I'm not sure if I would have liked this as a kid. The humanoid turtles from the first half are frankly awkward-looking, and the plot was kinda boring.

The second episode is a bit better. During my childhood, I was a big fan of anime shows such as Saint Seiya and Ronin Warriors, so probably 10 year old me would have liked to see more of these super-powered armored turtles.

An oddity from a time when the "Turtle Mania" was fading off, with very little interest to anyone outside from that fandom.
