I thought the first movie the Spanish found footage movie REC (2007) was incredibly good, though Rec 2 (2009) was not as good as the first, but it still was scary to watch. Rec 2 (2009) was highly effective with its scares and how they were executed. Plus, the main thing this movie did well like the first was making it feel real when the intense stuff happens. The movie takes place directly after the ending of the first film and has more of an explanation for this infection spreading around the apartment complex, while also doing something a bit different with the camera work.
Even though we still do not know much about the characters like the SWAT team, the acting is well done making these characters feel like real people in this situation once a lot of things involving an infection spreading from the first film, along with there being teenagers who followed these firefighters into the building. The camera goes between each SWAT person showing their points of view, along with the teenagers that followed them in the building having a camera showing how they got into the building and what eventually happens to them in the movie.
The effects of whatever bloody thing that happens in the movie felt realistic in the way it is shot with the camera, and how the scenes are put together to make it disturbing and intense to watch. There are effective regular scares or jump scares that can be unexpected and surprising once certain things start happening in the movie that involves a lot of infected people being like zombies. There is good suspense with occasional moments where they turn the camera off, but they do it in a way that makes sense, and it has a lot of scary moments that are effective and will make you want to look away from the screen.
The ending to the movie was very scary and has a disturbing connection to the ending of the first film giving a creepy but surprising ending.
