Some of the comedy felt forced, and the jokes lacked inspiration. Perhaps it's partly my fault, i hadn't watched the prequels in years, but remembered them fondly for their fun and humor, which had me eagerly anticipating the third installment. However, my excitement quickly turned into massive disappointment. It seemed like an unnecessary addition, and I don't think many people were clamoring for a third movie in the first place. The gaps between the movies were quite extensive: 2002-2016-2023.
The dialogue was mainly a barrage of "no's," and the humor relied heavily on recurring jokes that didn't land for me. I was anticipating more comedy, but it felt like a straightforward road trip instead. Moreover, it came across as incredibly trite, clichéd, and lacking inspiration, especially because many jokes, like the whole "that's a Greek word or invention" trope, were recycled from the first two movies and felt overused at this point.
The only character I genuinely liked was the mayor, and she strongly reminded me of Villanelle from "Killing Eve." It felt like such a waste of a character; she deserved to be in a better movie. Now, I don't mean to imply that the she's on par with this character, she isn't; but in a way, it's a reversal of what Quentin Tarantino once said about Col. Hans Landa. He wanted to cancel the movie "Inglorious Basterds" because none of the auditioning actors were worthy of Landa's character. Instead, I wish this movie had been canceled because it wasn't worthy of Mayor Victory's character. I struggled to form any attachment to the other characters, which felt like a missed opportunity, especially considering the subplot involving the dad's urn, which demanded a stronger emotional connection.
