The opening scene of Dangerous Mission is very exciting. A woman witnesses a hit, and the mob boss orders another hitman to get rid of her. You can't see the face of the hitman, though, so when Piper Laurie meets several men in the ski lodge where she works, you can't tell which fellow is the bad guy! Is it Victor Mature, who seems incredibly suspicious and hides a gun in his glove compartment? Is it Vincent Price, who usually plays bad guys? Are we ever to know, and when we finally find out, will it be too late for Piper?
I loved Vincent Price in this movie. He's a bespectacled tourist attached to his camera, and while he does try to court the pretty Piper, he's the object of Betta St. John's big crush. Betta is the daughter of a disgraced Indian chief, and her scenes with Vincent are so cute. Victor is also seductively mysterious, but Piper steals the show as far as eye candy goes. She looks lovely in this movie, so let's hope she doesn't get captured by the bad guy! While this might not be an A-picture, you can definitely try it out for a rainy matinee. It's exciting, and you'll see William Bendix, Walter Reed, Whit Bissell, and a young Dennis Weaver!
