Greetings from the other side. I have a good friend who is in the movie makeup scene, and when I was in my early teens he taught me a lot of this stuff. Therefore, I find this show interesting.
The good part of the show is seeing the different people and their personalities and obviously watching them create very cool characters. I also enjoyed many of the special guests they had on the show, such as Casandra Peterson (Elvira, Mistress of the Dark), and many top notch actors and directors. Sadly, that's were the good ends for me.
There are many bad aspects of this show, at least for me. I absolutely HATE that when they are about to tell us who wins this challenge or immunity, the do the "and the winner is....(go to commercial)". I know many shows do this, thinking it's suspenseful, but it's not. It's just annoying as hell, and I usually change the channel just to spite them.
The next annoying thing is the crazy amount of times this show repeats itself. When the come back from commercial they replay that last 7 seconds or so from when they left for commercial. At the end of the show especially, they repeat what they like or hate about the characters around 4 times. When they first see them, the close up view, when the send the artists away so they can repeat the same crap, then the bring the artists back in and repeat the same stuff for the fourth time. God, that's annoying.
I also find it annoying how the judges NEVER miss a thing. If someone makes a small mistake in a chest piece and says it for the camera, even though they patch it up, the judges ALWAYS call them on it. The judges are passed notes on any mistakes caught on camera, so they look amaz
I don't like the fake drama that they put into the show. I'm tired of hearing artists say the usual phrases such as "I just know I'm going home tonight", or "I've never had so much to do in this last 4 hours", or "I've never felt pressure like this before".
Finally, I don't understand why Mackenzie Westmore is there, other than the fact that her dad is Michael Westmore. She repeats the same lines over and over and over. You could record her lines once, then replace her with a robot that says her lines.
I do love looking at the creatures and stuff, just be prepared to be annoyed with parts of the show, and maybe fast forwards parts.
