A good setup

This movie, about a motley crew of professional thieves that plans the robbery of a Monte Carlo casino vault, is a good action movie!

I really like the setup. We get introduced to the main protagonist, Theo Wilkins, who plans to steal from a casino after talking to (eventual) heist members who all have different personalities. Their stereotypes put charm to the story, and we get time to know them. That also makes us cheer for them, making them holding onto our interest, and despite the movie's slow pace, it's always somewhat engaging because of the characters.

I like the style and tone of the movie, especially the cinematography and dialogues. Most of the actors convince as well, and I think the third act is the best part. Theo didn't set the money as his highest goal, but the achievement of completing the heist itself. He died happy and peacefully, but suddenly there is a twist that comes up that reveals that Theo Wilkins is Paul Mason's father. This kind of created an emotional atmosphere, but I also wish the movie consisted more of the relationship between Theo and Paul. The twist should be based on more because it mostly feels like an unnecessary addition.

Anyway, in the third act, I like the way the movie focuses on Paul's tribute to Theo, that Theo's achievement of completing the heist is much more valuable than the actual money. Then the money gets returned, and when no one expects it, the luck pays off and Paul wins a lot of money. I think this part set a great conclusion to its tragic heist story.

Set amidst the glamorous backdrop of Monte Carlo, this movie delivers a captivating tale of a seasoned heist mastermind and his motley crew of accomplices as they embark on a daring robbery of a casino vault. The movie excels in its engaging characters, each with distinct personalities that add charm and depth to the narrative. The slow pacing, despite its minor shortcomings, allows for a deeper connection with the characters, making their successes and failures resonate with the audience.
