Death Racers (2008 Video)
1/10
Post-civil war dystopian clown carnage

Utterly butchers the novel sci-fi concept first introduced by Roger Corman in 1975's 'Death Race 2000', this non-event is marginally more professional than a home movie attributable to the appearance of hip-hop duo Insane Clown Posse. The cinematography is often so over exposed it's actually difficult to see what's happening on the screen (which may not be a bad thing), suffice to say distinguishing protagonists from antagonists is made more difficult by the fact everyone is either a criminal or a corrupt official.

In between the beatings I was able to discern that the barking Governor is trying to subdue a sarin gas attack using the death race as a means to locate and destroy the conspirators, whilst the competitors are vying for freedom at any cost. Gleaning that much from the dreadfully looped dialogue and disjointed editing was an accomplishment, and I may have missed some details, but I'm not watching it again to clarify.

Souped-up engines made to look like post-apocalyptic death machines, gallons of corn syrup and a boot load of fake limbs do little to enhance the quality of this ultra-low budget garbage. Not even a pair of leather-clad ladies with attitude (Keith & Corcoran) can save this wreck from the scrapyard. There's sado-masochism (via a mechanically assisted simulated rape scene), and enough bloody beatings, stabbing, slashing and stomping that it becomes tedious very quickly. Ironically though, there's very little actual racing happening, if you can even call it that - the title is a misnomer perhaps due to the micro budget and cost of fuel.

Chaotic like a WWE spectacle but with even less orchestration and structure, and disappointingly nothing comedic (black or otherwise) to laugh at, just an all-round mess of a movie made worse by the bizarre replay editing and mostly abysmal acting (with Keith and Corcoran being borderline exceptions). Unless you're a dedicated ICP fan, this may be one to avoid.
