A genuinely good girl in pre-code.

Warning: Spoilers
Possibly a virgin, the platinum blonde character played by Jean Harlow wants to remain chaste for marriage, but a shapely body has her mistaken as a loose woman, always sought after by lascivious men. It's one thing to walk home three miles in the country after a date gets too fresh, but in the big city, there's other ways, possibly big cars with chauffeurs.

Living with the loose party girl Marie Prevost and finding a modeling job with the help of pal Mae Clarke, Harlow begins to date wealthy businessman Walter Byron, but he has a wife who won't let him go, the always fabulous Natalie Moorehead. As far as pre-code films go, this is top notch, funny and sparkling, although in one amusing moment, Harlow displays her figure in old fashioned "warm" underwear.

Prevost, whose whole life seemed to be a pre-code film, steals her scenes easily, especially when paired with Byron's chauffer, Andy Devine. She has some great malapropism lines and gets laughs (probably unintentionally) describing a shriveled frankfurter. Moorehead is great playing loyal wife when she goes to the fashion house Harlow works in.

Outside of a near tragedy, Clarke doesn't get much story wise, but she's quite loyal and important to Harlow's advancement, unaware of the passes her wealthy married boyfriend makes on Jean. This may not be the scandalous exploits of other Harlow pre-codes, as the script is far more subtle. This obviously was made to indicate how appearances (even marcel wave platinum hairstyles) can be deceiving.
