The Dirty Business
boblipton23 January 2023
Charles Murray is running for mayor. Opponent Eddie Baker has a young woman go into his shoe shop and, while changing stockings, say things that will alienate the women voters; Baker tells her it's a practical joke, and he'll get her boy friend out of jail.

Murray proceeds to make speeches and appeal to the Scots voters in town, using all the jokes and stories that he had accumulated in 47 years in show business. He had entered the movies in 1912 at Biograph, only to follow Sennett to Keystone, where he played a character called 'Hogan'. His popularity peaked in the late 1920s, when he starred in a series of 'The Cohens and the Kellys' movies opposite George Sidney. He continued to work almost through his death in 1941 at the age of 69.
