Ingenious thriller needed an Edgar Wallace to improve the ending
malcolmgsw11 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Williams plays a timid bank clerk. He carries off a bank robbery. He books 2 cabins in a cruise ship. When he gets on board he goes to the first cabin takes off his disguise ,writes a last letter to make it look as if he had committed suicide by throwing himself overboard. He then goes to the other cabin where his co passenger is a New York detective on holiday.Williams doesn't know that the steward is an old lag who pinches the money he left and his suicide note. However an old prison chum of the steward is also on board. He takes what the steward has taken and kills him in a struggle.Meanwhile Williams has found love on board and this causes a change of heart. He confesses and the killer is captured. So unfortunately the hand of the censor really rather watered down what was heading for an interesting climax.what this really needed was someone with the ingenuity of Edgar Wallace to add a few twists to the ending. However up to the last 10 minutes it is quite gripping.
