Too many adventures and segments presenting different time periods reveals a movie that was far too ambitious and probably saw a lot of important stuff ending up on the cutting room floor. It's also a humourless picture that drags, a sad element for a film that doesn't even hit 75 minutes. The story of diamond hunters in the mid to late 1800's does show the violence that occurs when diamonds are discovered by accident, causing break-ins into people's homes and others wrongfully sent to prison so they won't interfere in the diamond business that is started.
Victor McLaglen, John Loder, Anne Nagel and Cecil Kellaway star in this film that should have been pushed as a big budget A feature with more care given to detail. Stock footage in the jungle shows various wild animals including monkeys throwing coconuts at Kellaway, a boa constrictor attacking a tiger, and a medium sized bear wrestling with some sort of hyena-like creature. Not sure that all of these creatures belong to South Africa, but I guess it provides an interesting visual period it's easy to lose track because this film is going in so many different directions and never stays on one course. I truly had high hopes for this one and was gravely disappointed.
