Not even good propaganda
bkoganbing24 December 2018
I suppose that one of the only significant things about The Marines Come Thru is the fact that it is shot in Florida. Possibly poverty row Grand National Studios was thinking that they would pioneer Florida as a new motion picture studio location instead of Hollywood.

If they did it was one awful picture that they chose. The Marines Come Thru has a pair of aviation mechanics, Wallace Ford and Grant Withers foil a spy ring planning to steal the design of a new bomb site.

Ford and Withers are doing a most lame imitation of Captain Flagg and Sergeant Quirk and are the mechanics to Marine aviation ace Michael Doyle. When they're not doing maintenance on Doyle's plane they're busy fighting over entertainer Sheila Lynch with Ford always outsmarting Withers. Believe me they foil the bad guys almost by accident.

The bad guys are some Teutonic looking and sounding gents who have recruited a neighbor of Doyle's society girlfriend Toby Wing to steal the bomb site plans. As many movie Germans were in those days they are incredibly stupid.

As Lynch is an entertainer some singing and dancing is thrown in and for more filler some films of Marines in training are also used.

The whole thing is so colossally dumb I don't even think it was good propaganda when it was re-released under a different banner during World War II after Grand National Pictures went belly up.

Skip this one folks.
